LASIK is appropriate for
people with considerable short-sightedness (-1 to -9 dioptres) or far-sightedness
(up to +2.5 dioptres). Bigger
refraction errors are however unsuitable method because of the remaining part
of the cornea will be too thin. An intracapsular lens can be used instead of laser
therapy. With
the first part of the operation, a thin cut is done in the cornea with so called
microkeratome and creates a flap which is folded back. Then the deeper parts of
the cornea are treated by laser. The final part of the operation; the flap is
