| An
Epi-LASIK operation is performed under the microscopic thin flap of epithelium.
The procedure can be compared with LASIK. The difference is however that the laser
treatment is performed on "Bowman's layer! and not on Stroman's middle layer (see
cornea). The method is favourable for those patients that have to thin cornea. After
an EPI-LASIK operation you can feel pain in the eye for 24-48 hours. The feelings
are typical with the LASEK and PRK methods. The difference between methods is
that no weak alcohol epithelium solving solution is used. Therefore,
the epithelium tissue is saved and recovering after the treatment will better
and quicker. Besides, the flap of the cornea is shaped by a tool as in LASIK operations
and not by hand as in the LASEK operations. After the EPI-LASIK, the
patient's eyelid is taped and bandaged. The eye will stabilize after 3-6 months.
The second eye is operated when the result of the first operation is known.
